Leader In Me

Creed

A Bit About Our Journey

Bains Elementary is proud to be a Leader in Me school.  All staff began the 2014-2015 school year by learning about Stephen Covey's 7 Habits and how to implement them into our own lives.  Then we taught Stephen Covey's 7 Habits to our students and spent the year building school routines around these habits.  During our two family nights, we shared the 7 Habits with our families and friends.  Our "Luminous Leaders", a special group of 4th and 5th graders, took many leadership roles around our school and even organized a book drive at our local library.  The 2014-2015 school year was a year of learning, sharing, and synergizing.

The 2015-2016 school year was our first complete year of implementation.  Teachers, students, parents and friends spent time discovering, exploring and practicing a set of leadership and life skills from Stephen Covey's book, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.  By learning to "live out" the 7 Habits in the classrooms, around our school and in the community, students became even more ready to thrive in our ever changing world.  With everyone-- faculty, staff, students, parents and community, working together through The Leader in Me, we worked to develop in our students and in ourselves critical skills and characteristics such as trustworthiness, a strong work ethic, effective communication skills, a sense of team work and academic achievement.

This Year Has Been AMAZING!!!

The 2016-2017 school year began with our Luminous Leaders updating our school mission statement to include leadership language. Our new school mission statement is proudly displayed right outside our front office.

Also, our classroom mission statements are all displayed in the hall right outside our front office. Teachers and students worked together to write their classroom mission statements while paying particular attention to incorporating the 7 Habits and leadership language.

This year, all students are using Leadership Notebooks and will participate in student-led conferences. We also used beginning of the year data to set school wide goals that are displayed in the entrance hall as well as in other public areas of the school.

Our Luminous Leaders have worked hard this year to organize, plan, and lead our Synergy Assemblies. These assemblies give us school wide opportunities to learn more about the 7 Habits, celebrate successes, show off talents, and have fun.
